Of Mice and Men Excerpt Essay
ââ¬Å"Lennie!â⬠he said pointedly. ââ¬Å"Lennie, for Godââ¬â¢ sakes donââ¬â¢t drink so much.â⬠Lennie kept on grunting into the pool. The little man hung over and shook him by the shoulder. ââ¬Å"Lennie. You going to be wiped out like you was last night.â⬠Lennie plunged his entire head under, cap and all, and afterward he sat up on the bank and his cap trickled down on his blue coat and ran down his back. ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s good,â⬠he said. ââ¬Å"You drink a few, George. You take a decent enormous drink.â⬠He grinned cheerfully. George unslung his bindle and dropped it tenderly on the bank. ââ¬Å"I ainââ¬â¢t sure itââ¬â¢s great water,â⬠he said. ââ¬Å"Looks kinda scummy.â⬠Lennie dallied his huge paw in the water and squirmed his fingers so the water emerged in little sprinkles; rings augmented over the pool to the opposite side and returned once more. Lennie watched them go. ââ¬Å"Look, George. Look what I done.â⬠George bowed adjacent to the pool and drank from his hand with fast scoops. ââ¬Å"Tastes all right,â⬠he conceded. ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t truly appear to be running, however. You never oughta drink water when it ainââ¬â¢t running, Lennie,â⬠he said miserably. ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢d drink out of a canal in the event that you was thirsty.â⬠He tossed a scoop of water into his face and scoured it about with his hand, under his jawline and around the rear of his neck. At that point he supplanted his cap, propelled himself once more from the waterway, drew up his knees and grasped them. Lennie, who had been viewing, imitated George precisely. He propelled himself back, drew up his knees, grasped them, glanced over to George to see whether he had it spot on. He pulled his cap down somewhat more over his eyes, the way Georgeââ¬â¢s cap was. George gazed bleakly at the water. The edges of his eyes were red with sun glare. He said indignantly, ââ¬Å"We could similarly too of rode clear to the farm if that charlatan transport driver comprehended what he was talkinââ¬â¢ about. ââ¬ËJesââ¬â¢ somewhat stretch down the highway,ââ¬â¢ he says. ââ¬ËJesââ¬â¢ a little stretch.ââ¬â¢ God damn almost four miles, thatââ¬â¢s what it was! Didnââ¬â¢t wanta stop at the farm door, thatââ¬â¢s what. Too God damn sluggish toâ pull up. Marvel he isnââ¬â¢t excessively damn great to stop in Soledad by any means. Shows us out and says ââ¬ËJesââ¬â¢ somewhat stretch down the road.ââ¬â¢ I wager it was multiple miles. Damn hot day.â⬠Lennie looked hesitantly over to him. ââ¬Å"George?â⬠ââ¬Å"Yeah, what ya want?â⬠ââ¬Å"Where we goinââ¬â¢, George?â⬠The little man twitched down the edge of his cap and glared over at Lennie. ââ¬Å"So you overlooked that awready, did you? I gotta let you know once more, isn't that right? Jesus Christ, youââ¬â¢re an insane bastar d!â⬠ââ¬Å"I forgot,â⬠Lennie said delicately. ââ¬Å"I made an effort not to overlook. Legitimate to God I did, George.â⬠I picked this passage in light of the fact that presents George and Lennieââ¬â¢s companionship which is the most significant part of his book.
